Types of Isolators in Electrical Power Transmission
There are several types of isolators in the electrical system. However, we have compiled a list of six different types of electrical isolators that are commonly used in electrical signal transmission. The six types of isolators are:
- Single Break Isolator
- Double Break Isolator
- Pantograph Isolator
- Horizontal Break Isolator
- Vertical Break Isolator
- Centre Break Isolator
About Single Break Isolator
There is only one break point between a stationary and moving contact in a single-break isolator. It is mounted on insulation and used in low- to medium-voltage systems. Because of its simplicity, it is a cost-effective option for substations and industrial environments with basic isolation needs.
About Double Break Isolator
With a central moving arm attached to two fixed contacts, this isolator features two breaks per phase. It is widely used in high-voltage systems and offers better isolation. More safety and clear separation are provided, especially during maintenance and inspections.
