What is Potentiometers?
A potentiometer is a three-terminal electrical component that works as a variable resistor. The voltage levels in a circuit can be changed manually by altering the resistance.
How a Potentiometer Works?
When you rotate or slide the wiper, it moves along the resistive track. This changes the output voltage by adjusting the resistance between the wiper and the ends. It typically regulates brightness, volume, and other analog parameters by serving as a voltage divider.
8 Types of Potentiometers or POTs in Electrical and Electronics
There are several varieties of potentiometers that are used in both AC and DC circuits. However, we have identified eight types of potentiometers that are frequently used in electrical and electronic circuits:
- Rotary Potentiometer
- Multi Turn Potentiometer
- Various Trim Potentiometer or Trimpot
- Preset Potentiometer
- Slide Potentiometer
- Wire Wound Potentiometer
- Dual Gang Potentiometer
- Digital Potentiometer
